Cruise Stop #4 – Barbados ~ My favorite!

by DanicasDaily on December 7, 2009

Barbados was by far our FAVORITE island out of the 5 Southern Caribbean Islands we visited.  It REALLY does look like the pictures you see online and there is so much to do there.  Now I know why all the celebrities pick it to vacation ;) .   I definitely think it is an island we will visit again.

Our excursion was jam packed but completely FUN!!  We started off by snorkeling TWO shipwrecks that have been sunk since for close to 100 year’s.  One was a party boat and one was a ferry boat.  This time the FISH were everywhere.

I LOVE how this fish even posed for the picture – kinda freaky that he/she was staring right back at me though.  I wonder what the fish was thinking?

DL010006

Our guide actually dove down into the shipwrecks and swam through the boat.  He even coaxed an eel from coming out ~ creepy!

The sunken boats!

After our snorkel we headed over the Browns Beach.  The beach was amazing in every aspect (minus all the tourists of course :D ).  The sand was so soft – honestly like powder without a rock or shell in site.   You can actually walk from the ship to this beach if you wanted.

Check out how BLUE the water is ~ yes, this is the Caribbean Ocean!

Part 2 of our excursion was in this crazy Safari 4×4.  Seriously ~ the drivers are CRAZY but more on that in a bit.  Most of my pictures were taken as we sped past things.  Here is a picture recap of our drive.

More beaches.

A fancy new hotel that is opening and is super expensive to stay.

The irony ~ the place that Tiger Woods got married :)

When we stopped outside, this guy brought a baby 11 week old monkey over and put him on The Husband’s shoulder.  How cute is the monkey?!

IMG_5724

The husband tried to give him a dollar but I guess he isn’t trained to take your money yet ;)

IMG_5726

Cool houses

Plus a church

I wanted this little car

IMG_5773

We stopped at a Rain Forest for Rum punch and pictures.  Oh and so Tarzan could swing…..

IMG_5788 IMG_5777 IMG_5774

The chicken was too afraid to cross the road because he knew how those Caribbean’s drive!

IMG_5775

The HUGEST centipedes were everywhere ~ freaky!

Random pictures snapped on our drive.

The sheep do not grow wool since the climate is so hot. There are random sheep and goats everywhere on the island.  You tell the difference because sheep tales point down and goat tails point up. IMG_5798

Sugar Mill

The yellow machine harvest’s the Sugar Cane

Sugar Cane!

IMG_5826

Then, Mr. Speed Racer went crazy driving us in our Safari 4×4 through the muddy Sugar Cane fields ~ Super FAST! IMG_5837IMG_5838

We were all holding on for dear life, like this!

IMG_5839

He stopped one time so I could snap a picture of this.

I LOVED Barbados!  I totally want to go back now after that recap :D   I think The Husband officially wants one of those little monkeys for Christmas now too LOL.

The next stop is St. Kitts ~ where you can actually see the Caribbean Ocean meet the Atlantic Ocean ~ cool!

Which island is your FAVORITE out of the ones I’ve shared so far?

Off to relax ~ Nite all!

I’ve been on 2 cruises that stopped in Barbados and I totally agree – its amazing! The first time we went we did a 4 x 4 safari as well, it was brilliant, and the second time we did an even better trip that I have to recommend for your next visit which I’m sure won’t be too far in the future ;-) .
It was a tour that went to both a rum distillery and a brewery (with obviously a bit of an island tour in between these stops). It was a really interesting, very well run tour, with plenty of free samples and an excellent souvenir shop in the rum distillery! I’d do that tour again if I could.
Did your trip include St Lucia at all – love that island (I got married there!)

I just LOVE this vacation recap! Awesome pictures and stories. My favorite island so far from your trip? It’s hard to choose, Barbados, Antigua or the DR. Not sure, they are all lovely it seems.

Our trip to Jamaica is coming up next week so this is just awesome to read every day. Thank you for getting me through this week of snow here in IL LOL

Awesome! It looks like the most fun stop! Tons of fish out there with you!
Yikes on the centipedes. I’m not a rooster fan, but he was cute! Love the monkey!
Cute sheep and goats! I’d be really confused seeing a sheep w/out wool! (I’m a knitter)
