Florida 2010: Part 3 The Bahamas ~ Freeport

by DanicasDaily on September 4, 2010

Happy LONG Weekend all!  Our main purpose of going to Florida this year was to take a four day Bahamas cruise & visit Atlantis!  We cruised on the Norwegian Sky (yes, we still cruised with NCL even though our ship broke down in  the middle of the ocean last year.)

I am normally a big fan of Norwegian Cruise Line cruises – they are one of my favorites, but, I have to say, we were not impressed at all with The Sky.  It was an old ship, the activities were not as fun and little things like having your towels folded into animals or your bathroom glasses clean never happened :(   The service also just wasn’t there the way it is on other cruises where they know your name and make you feel special.  I’d still cruise with NCL again, but, I wouldn’t recommend going on The Sky.

Welcome Onboad Sky

That being said, we still made the most of it and had a blast!

We had a balcony room and I NEVER knew that it’s smaller than the regular rooms because of the balcony.  More $ = less space = no bueno (not good) in our book!

This had to be the cutest little couch I’ve ever seen – it fit about 1 1/2 butts :D

STOP # 1  FREEPORT

Freeport The Bahamas

Since The Husband had a bum hand and we couldn’t snorkel, we did the next best thing ~ A bus tour of the city that included visiting the Open Air Farmer’s Market (for me!), The Casino (for him!) and Port Lucaya.

Open Air Farmer's Market The Bahamas

One thing I LOVE about The Bahamas is all the colors in everything and all their hand crafted souvenirs.

Conch Shells!  The crazy part is that these are the shells after they removed the “conch” to fry it up for Conch Fritters.  Nope, we didn’t brave trying any Conch on this trip ;)

This was the extent of their Farmer’s Market Fruit…..

The bus tour was pretty cool because you got to hear alot of the history of the island and see cool houses like this castle ~ The Owner….none other than the person who owns all the Burger Kings.  You know, I was totally hoping to see the king running :D

As we approached the shopping center, we wondered what “his” job is….

The only casino on the island ~ it’s a full casino and the tables opened at 11 so The Husband was happy :)

Port Lucaya!

I think these are mangos….

The Caribbean Version of the singing California Raisins– LOVE it – So fun!

Pineapple Band

I will say our balcony was cool for picture taking.  Every time we docked and left this little tug boat came up to our boat – a guy got on and off then they boated away.

Kinda crazy, kinda cool!

The perfect ending to another fun day……

Bahamas Sunset

I can’t wait for the next recap of Nassau and The Atlantis is my favorite, I think :D   Now to sort through all those pictures :D

Aw, this takes me back. I spent a college spring break in Grand Bahama Island one year & we stayed at that OurLucaya resort. We didn’t get to see the casino or the castle though… wow. Looking forward to reading your next recap!
