People are always going to unreliable sources for health information and it’s great that their website has valuable quality information with their “Resource Guide”.

Cool thing I learned – I didn’t realize how involved they were not only in organic food, but in social responsibility. It’s nice to see companies giving back to the world instead of just taking from it.

OMGosh I love love love that company. Totally all about ethical eating.
On the Do Good tab on their website, you can learn about how they’ve reduced their box size to lighten their environmental footprint!

“As of Fall 2004, we’ve reduced the box size of our flaked cereals by 10% saving on unnecessary packaging waste. In 2007 we rolled out the EnviroBox™ to the rest of its cereal products. The amount of cereal doesn’t change, just the amount of wasted box space. And as of 2009, we’ve lightened the weight of the our cereal boxes, saving an additional 186 tons of paperboard per year.”

Sami November 2, 2009 at 1:44 pm

I learned that they use soy-based inks on all of our paperboard packaging! Incredible! And they’re completely certified organic!

Thanks so much for the opportunity! I learned that they belly dance at work, spend break time digging in the corporate garden, and sing in meetings- a lot. Haha..that makes me like them even more!!!

I love that they have so many gluten-free products because not many companies do that! :)

Amy November 2, 2009 at 5:36 pm

I enjoyed reading the NP’s section “the great hemp debate.” The hulled hemp still contains THC in 1-2 parts per million. Not enough to be psychoactive, but I wonder if there are any effects if you “accidentally” eat a whole box of cereal…

I also love these guys! The new Flax Maple Pecan Crunch has 7g of fat in 3/4 of a cup….pretty decent for this type of cereal. All organic and all natural and an ingredient list of ALL recognizable items. Fantastic!!!

Very interesting that they pointed out the difference between ‘natural’ and ‘organic’! So often brands will proclaim ‘ALL-NATURAL’ front and center, and I bet less-than-savvy shoppers assume ‘organic.’

Tay November 2, 2009 at 9:58 pm

I love how they’re sustainable, have gluten free products, and are focused on health. Even in their “unhealthy” products, they use wholesome ingredients!

Marc November 3, 2009 at 1:28 am

One cool thing I learned is that this dates back to 1949, which demonstrates that it dates too far back to be considered modern day “chic” or politically correct undertakings…so I consider this serious.
