Points Plus Shockers & Surprises

November 30, 2010 by DanicasDaily 73 Comments

Happy Biggest Loser Day all!  It’s honestly one of my favorite days of the week just because I get a little motivational boost watching the show.  I am not sure if I have a favorite yet though.

Thanks to all of you for being patient today while my site was down.  It’s kinda cool to think that we had so much Weight Watcher LOVE going on that it crashed my site twice in one day.  Hopefully it’s fixed and won’t happen again.

Thanks for all the great comments and ideas for working the new program on my last post.  It is great to know that we all have each other to bounce ideas off as we work the new Weight Watchers Points Plus Program.  I am sure it is just as fun for you all to read each other’s comments as it is for me Smile

Speaking of which……I have WEIGHT WATCHERS SUPPORT GROUP UPDATE!!!

We made HUGE progress today and I think it might just be ready for everyone to get started on Thursday.  I am soooo excited!

Today I discover that some of my FAVORITE things didn’t have their points values change when switched to Points+

Like hard boiled eggs (2 points+)

Hardboiled Egg

I think the fruit I am MOST excited about being ZERO points is bananas!!! I have a feeling you all will be seeing them a lot for awhile Open-mouthed smile (2 pts+ for the cheese)

Protein Plate

Tall nonfat Decaf Latte with caramel drizzle on top (2 points+)

Starbuck's Red Cups

Sometimes life can be so ironic.  I actually had to miss our work Boot Camp today to go to pick up Nation’s Pies for everyone to eat pie.

No worries though, I didn’t have a single BLT (bite, lick or taste) because I was too busy enjoying my delicious Leftover Honey Glazed Chipotle Chicken & Sweet Potato Salad.

Chicken leftovers

Organic Romaine Lettuce

Organic Broccoli Florets

Organic Cucumber Slices

Organic Tomatoes

3 oz Leftover Roasted Sweet Potatoes

3 oz Leftover Honey Glazed Chipotle Chicken

1 Tbsp Roasted Pumpkin Seeds (for crouton like crunch)

A sprinkle of chopped chives because I needed to use them

All topped with a little FULL FAT Ranch (which didn’t change in points either!)

THIS is why I make leftovers! So tasty (10 points+ and completely satisfying)

Honey Glazed Sweet Potatoes

Mid afternoon snacks ~ Cashes (2 pts+), Cheese (2 pts+) and a honey crisp apple (0 pts+).  Oh and it’s totally normal to use Halloween plates in December Winking smile

Halloween Snack Plate

I was pretty excited when I was pondering recipes for tonight and I checked the stats of my FAVORITE Shrimp Scampi Recipe had not changed Open-mouthed smile

Shrimp Scampi

I put a slight spin on this recipe because I served it with 1 cup of steamed broccoli to bulk it up and served it over 1 cup multi-grain pasta (9 points+).

Garlic Shrimp Scampi

After logging everything into my tracker I realized I STILL had points left, and after calculating the stats I realized that Dove Caramel Milk Chocolates didn’t change points values either Smile 2  for 2 points+!  (They really are 1 point+ each, even if you have the 5 piece serving!)

Dove Miniatures

I have to admit one of my struggles before with Weight Watchers and Points was staying within my points and not breaking into my flex points (Weekly Points Allowance).  Now, I am completely digging the fact that I might be “challenged’ to get all my daily points in Open-mouthed smile

Day 2 = SUCCESS with CHOCOLATE <3

Tell me what do you want to see in our support group and win a Points Plus Calculator!

Q’s:

1.  Have you had any Weight Watchers Points Plus shockers or surprises?

For me, I was shocked to discover that the 1 point Bagel Thins are now 3 points!  However, I am pleasantly surprised knowing my favorite chocolate, recipe and eggs are the same.

Night all!

I went through the grocery store with my iPhone (with WW app) in hand, and I was making so much noise! Do you use the iPhone app? The amazing thing is that it calculates PPV as you enter, so for example, I entered some Imagine Black Bean Bisque soup. Started with the fat, then the carbs> GASP! 8 points! NOOOOOOOO! but then when I added in the fiber and protein, (!!!!!!!!) it went down to 4. It was such an amazing visual about what fiber and protein can do for us.

Was excited about Fage 0% yogurt: 2 points. WIth a handful of zero-point blueberries? YUM.

Was shaking my head at most of the carb-y stuff. I think the pearl couscous turned out to be like 6 pts? for a 1/2 cup? Put that one back.

Ended up putting together my own recipe at dinner (along with WILD salmon, which is a power food, as opposed to FARMED salmon, which is not! GO WW!) – quinoa along with some sauteed mushrooms and shallots. It was SO GOOD: 4 pts.

I had a lot of food today and ended up with a deficit, so had a couple of Newman-Os. (1 pt each) YAY!

I’d love to see daily food journals, read motivational stories and to share goals with others!

I love that some of the points haven’t changed. And 0 pts for a banana! AWESOME!!!!

One of my complaints with WW was I did not have enough daily points and would be starving all the time. Okay, who am I kidding? I would just overeat.
Anyways, glad the new system is working out for you!

I had lunch at a friend’s and dinner out so I was worried but did ok. I know my friend always cooks healthy and mostly organic so I just went with it. She made pesto pasta with a salmon burger on top. Pesto has a LOT of points so I just estimated how much was on each plate as best I could. I was super full all afternoon. For dinner I had cup of vegan tomato soup and a 1/2 chopped salad. I went into my weekly points but it was still pretty easy considering I didn’t really plan. Soooo excited about this plan and can’t wait to hear all about what’s happening Thursday!

PS I’m loving your snacks and that shrimp dish!

Hey, it is still November, you are OK with the plate 😉 You missed boot camp for pies! That made me laugh. Was the trainer at your desk nagging you after? Good job on no BLTs.. but I can see why you didn’t want any pie.. that salad looks good! I love love love sweet potatoes on salads. So good. Glad your faves stayed the same! I think that’s good that a bagel thin went up 2 points.. they really aren’t that fantastic and are pretty processed (in my humble opinion of course!)

I was also suprised to see the bagel thins go from 1 pt. to now 3 pt.+ However, I was also suprised to see some things I eat stayed the same or didn’t go up much at all. Eggs, laughing cow cheese, string cheese, etc. and I am LOVING the free fruits and most veggies. Ironically I am now dealing with the mental struggle with being okay at not eating all my points. I want to learn to eat to fullness but I get 47 pts as I am a nursing mom and still have about 30 lbs. to lose to get into my healthy weight range. It is a LOT of food even meeting the daily health guidelines with the free fruits and veggies. Previously I was using a lot of my daily points to meet the 9 servings a day I was aiming for as a nursing mom.

I like the changes so far. Although I am accustomed to eat all of my DP, WPA, and APs (for losing and for maintaining). Now I just have to find the balance with the new program.

I’ve been trying not to compare points to points plus because everything is different. It’s like someone commented yesterday, it’s like comparing apples to tires, not even close. I am trying to reframe and toss out “points” and try to think like I did when I was a newbie almost 4 years ago. I pointed everything in my pantry and wrote on it with a sharpie just like I did back then. I did find out that ff sf cocoa mix is 1p+, the kind I used used to be free. It’s all going to workout in the end 🙂

I like the new program. I needed something new. Making better choices, like fresh fruit instead of canned fruit for breakfast, Just knowing it is free helps me better choices.

This is the first day that I received the program at my WW meeting and I am looking forward to all the reading.

Probably my biggest shocker (so far) was the light breads (bagel thins, light english muffins & Western Bagel Pita Bread). I can’t believe they jumped from 1 pt to 3 P+!
Even my favorite healthy grain (Quinoa) has gone up (6 P+!!)… however, I was pleased to see that another of my fave grains (bulghar) is pretty reasonable (4 P+).
Overall, I’m pretty excited b/c it mostly suits my eating habits nicely w/ room for splurges here & there. Honestly, I’m having trouble some days (2 out of 3 so far) getting all my daily points in! I eat so many fruits & veggies that so far, I’ve had no problem w/ the other points increasing.

I’ve only been back on WW for 3 wks now and lost 6.4 lbs, but I’m curious to see how the new program will affect my weight loss progress. I’m also excited to say my Activity points + for Zumba and dog walking have increased! Yippee – 45 minutes of Zumba used to get me 6 activity points, now it gets me 9 P+!

I was really nervous because the points values have gone up on my favs…carbs(as mentioned by someone else above) but this may be the kick in the pants I need to get losing again and keep it off. Summer is brutal for me. I exercise more but I guess I eat more because I put it back on. Thanks for everyone’s input. I feel easier about the new program. Of course I am excited about the 0 points bananas. I really prefer fruit over veggies so the new program will be a +++. Looking forward to your recipes, ideas, comments but most of all the support.

The new Weight Watchers pro points program sounds interesting.
It has increased the allotted points and you seem to feel happier.

Sorry to ask but are you loosing weight?

It seems to me weight loss without hunger is weird.
I have been a WW follower for a long time. The point system wasn’t bad but if I ate less than 25 points, I was hungry.
I tried the Core program for a while and it worked but there weren’t enough choices.
I’m thinking about rejoining. The no point fruit system is a great change. I used to prefer 2 points of bread or cookies.instead of fruits for 2 points. Now, I see that I’ll be tempted to go for more fruits. GREAT!

    HI Louise,

You should be able to calculate the points of the Carbquik mix through WW online. They have an online calculator that you plug in the fat, carbs, protein and fiber. I do not have that mix so I am not sure of the points.

Good luck with your WW journey…..I am sure you will love it.

    HI Elyse,

Thanks for the comment and for sharing your thoughts on the WW Program. Yes, I have been losing on the new points+ program and have felt more satisfied than I ever have on any of the WW programs. I too have done both points and CORE in the past and completely agree with everything you said.

For me, the BIG difference is the FREE FRUIT….I really eat so much more because it’s free. I think I’ve had a banana just about every day 🙂 It also comes in handy for snacks because now I can have something with my fruit for snack and not have it been a ton of points.

If you are considering it, I definitely say, give it a whirl. The new minimum points is 29 and that is just awesome! Oh and the WPA are now 49 too 🙂

Good luck and let me know how it goes for you.

    Hi Christina,

Wow, that is CRAZY! It totally makes me want to go out and get a Guinness just to check it out. I would venture to say that the books are probably more accurate then the calculator? Did you do a comparison with the online WW calculator to see if there was a difference there too?

It’s always better to venture on the high points+ side especially when things seem too good to be true (In my opinion).

I just had a question. I am seeking opinions on whether to do the meetings plan or the online plan? Do you get the same online benefits with etools? I have an iphone and would love to tally my points, look up food points, etc on it. However, I really like going to meetings and weighing in and talking to leaders etc., it is just not real practical for me right now (see 4 children comment above!) =) Any thoughts ladies???

(i’d been eating all of my 34 points daily & a few extra(2-4) every day of the weekly 49 points)…did this happen in the old pgm? Target points INCREASE? When I reached 5lbs goal today(my weigh in day) I got a star & it said your target has changed..now it’s 39 pts? Does this seem right? Thanks for helping a newbie!

      Hi Karen,

I have never seen someone’s daily target go up as they lose weight. Usually it goes up when you are gaining weight. Is it possible that by change you changed your gender from female to male? That is the only other thing that I could think of that would cause your daily target to go up.

If you feel you are full/content and losing at a rate that works for you at the 34 points+ range, I would keep it there.

Great blog! I just joined WW again for the first time in years. The Points+ Program is amaizing. I have already lost 1.5 lbs in 3 days. So far, every night I still have points left over even after my WW ice cream cone. The Ice cream is the only thing WW brand that I buy because I have seen that it is at least 1 to 2 points lower than even the Skinny Cow brand.I am trying to get to my first meeting but I am just so busy. I really hope I make it next Tuesday. I have 43lbs to lose so I really need to be motivated. Thank you for the blog and please add me to your mailing list. :). BTW I still will only allow myself a little salt per day. That stuff will make you gain weight.
