The Real Deal!

by DanicasDaily on July 21, 2011

Happy Friday Eve all!  I think I learned from yesterday’s post, if you are from the South, then, you call it Putt Putt Golf, but, if you are from anywhere else, it’s Mini Golf.  Maybe I am Southern at heart….after all, I DID grow up on a farm, in the country and wanted to be a cow-girl when I grew up Open-mouthed smile

I pretty much made the decision last night that today was going to be a complete rest day…no planned workout, just my usual trek to work on the train.  My body is just tired so I listened….now if only it would sleep IN instead of getting me up at 4:22 am.

Today’s food definitely made up for yesterday’s challenges.

Sometimes a girl just needs to REAL DEAL ~ a Blueberry Bagel with Light Whipped Cream Cheese from Manhattan Bagel with a BIG Iced Hazelnut Coffee (9 points+).

Doughy, chewy, warm, slightly sweet, slightly toasted REAL, not LITE bread!

I am pretty sure I said “This is SO GOOD!” in my head about 1,000 times.

Work flew by this morning, but, sure enough, about 3 hours later, I couldn’t wait to dig into lunch.

Remember Tracey’s 3 points+ Turkey Meatloaf Muffins?  I had TWO left in the freezer.

IMG_4700

Top with ketchup just because I know she thinks that’s weird.  These are honestly delicious by alone, but, I wanted The Red Sauce!!! Open-mouthed smile

IMG_4706

Greens and things topped with Trader Joe’s Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette (4 points+)

I was full after lunch, but, my mouth wanted something sweet.  I didn’t even realize this when I propped up my Annie’s Pink Lemonade Fruit Snacks, but, even the Dolphins want in on the action. (2 points+)

IMG_4714

Train snacks ~ cherries and light string cheese (1 points+) ~ Best cherries to date!

All day long I had been planning how I’d convince The Husband we NEEDED to go to the next town over to pick up our new BBQ.

We actually had bought this AWESOME BBQ on Tuesday, but, after waiting for the store to find it for a half hour, they came back and said it was out of stock/on order.

It even has a searing burner and a LIGHT inside for bbqing in the dark ~ I usually take a flash light out with me lol.

I reluctantly got a refund and resolved to wait a week.  Not really…..

I looked up all the Sam’s Clubs around us in a 100 mile radius and found one that had it in stock……One that just happened to be next to the BEST SUSHI PLACE of all time ~ Yokoso Sushi.

IMG_9696

I pretty much had to call in all my favors since The Husband does not eat sushi and wasn’t too hip on driving 40 miles each way.

But, can, I just say, it was worth every mile to get the BBQ and to have this!

Even on a summer day ~ Miso Soup seems to always hit the spot (2 points+)

IMG_2751

Japanese Miso Salad with the BEST Miso Dressing that I NEED to re-create (3 points+)

IMG_2748

This is the roll makes driving over an hour on a 100 degree day to get a BBQ worth it ~ I promise!

…..I could eat this a couple of times a week and NEVER get tired of it.  It might be a good thing this place isn’t closer.

IMG_2758

TUNA STEAK ~ Spicy Crab Meat Topped with Ahi, Avocado, Green Onions, Tobiko SRIRACHA and special sauce made extra spicy for me = LOVE!!

I estimated this based off a Spicy Tuna Roll at 1 points+ a piece.  (8 points+)

Q’s

Are you a fan of LITE Breads or the Real Deal Breads?

I’ll be honest, I really do want to LOVE the LITE breads ~ I mean, who doesn’t want to save on points+/calories.  But, when, it comes down to it, I’ve found that the LITE breads never really quite satisfy my craving and I feel like I am eating air.

I keep trying to like them though…..

Just one more day!

Night all!

I’m with you on the real deal breads, Danica! And they’re generally not too bad Points-wise! Your breakfast coming in at 9 PointsPlus is definitely do-able!!!

Glad you got your new BBQ! Hubs is a trooper to drive that far! I love your perseverance!!! :)

I gave up on light breads a few years ago because I found the same thing – they just didn’t satisfy me like regular bread did, so it’s better to spend the calories on the REAL stuff (even better if it’s homemade).

Oooh, that sushi looks so good!

It makes sense to enjoy real bread, but have a little less. I like hearty Great Harvest bread and it’s worth the extra calories.

Congrats on the new BBQ! It looks nice!

I’m kind of funny on bread. You see, I don’t really eat much of it but when I do I like lite bread for things such as buns (since it’s thin and therefore not much bread) and real bread like Great Harvest if I’m having it by itself.

A coworker brought in bagels from Panera today, and I just had to have one. I did stop at just having (the top) half of a chocolate chip bagel. They were so fresh and soft, mmmm. Yes you do need the real deal occasionally!

Ketchup! I’m from Pittsburgh, so I grew up putting Heinz ketchup on everything! :o )

Have fun with the new grill!!

I am definitely not a fan of the light breads either. My favorite are my home made breads – Sourdough, Honey Wheat and Regular. If I do buy from the stores it would be whole wheat, nutty oat or 12 grain. YUMS.
I love your new BBQ – WOW it has some features on it. Very nice.
AND there is that famous Spicy Peanut Vinaigrette with a great looking salad and those Turkey Meatloaf Muffins look heavenly…
Although I absolutely Hate Sushi. Sorry – I want to like and have tried it 3 or 4 times thinking something would change in me but EWE yuck. I don’t know why I just don’t like it. But glad you got to eat at the restaurant – it all looks good.
Have a great weekend

Love that you got the BBQ – I would have pulled in all my favors too. My husband loves sushi, me, not so much, but I am trying to get used to it!

Happy Friday – and have a great weekend!

yay for a new grill…wow…such a nice one too! :)

Love me some spicy tuna roll!

I have never been a fan of light breads, until I discovered Nickels 35 calorie breads….mulitgrain is my favorite variety, but they are all good. I know you can’t get them everywhere…so I am fortunate that they are available to me.

I like to incorporate both real and light breads in my diet. If I want higher calorie fillings, toppings (avocado, peanut butter, etc) I choose the light kinds, but if I just want some light toppings I go for the real deal:)
