Why I LOVE My Eat Smart Scale + An OS Sale!

by DanicasDaily on February 17, 2010

I could probably go on and on for why I think everyone should own a kitchen scale, however, not all kitchen scales are created the same.  I think that the EatSmart Precision Pro Digital Kitchen Scale is one of the best scales on the market ~ you definitely get the most for your money with this scale.  I own a few kitchen scales, but, this scale is definitely the one that gets used the most in our house.

Here are just a few of the things I LOVE about my scale:

1.  It’s small so it won’t take up too much counter space.

2.  It’s easy to use since there are only two-buttons to worry about :D

3. You can use any container on top of it and use the Tare Feature; Subtract the weight of any plate or container

4.  4 measurement modes: grams / ounces / kilograms / pounds

5. Max weight 11 pounds / 5 kilograms

6. Auto-Calibration; 3 minute Auto-Turnoff

7. It’s budget friendly in price and perfect for everyday tasks from weighing food or ingredients to calculating postage (bet you didn’t think of this one, huh?)

If calorie counting is your thing, it comes with this fun book that helps enhance your Calorie Counting Skills by giving you the calories per gram for exact measurement.

I think one reason I honestly LOVE this scale over any other scale I own, including my Weight Watcher Scale is that is has FOUR MEASUREMENT MODES.

GRAMS!

KILOGRAMS!

IMG_9565

OUNCES!

IMG_9566

POUNDS!

IMG_9567

I use the OUNCES AND GRAMS for measuring just about any cracker, chip, cereal, meat, pastas, cheeses, nuts and anything that will let me measure it!  The POUND feature is AWESOME for portioning out your meats to freeze them or when your recipe calls for 1/2 a lb of what not.  Honestly, anything I can weigh, I do because I know I will be getting the EXACT amount I need and my recipes will be balanced.

Another thing I didn’t realize I wanted in a scale until I had one was the “TARE” Feature.  Do you all know what this does?  it’s so cool!

Turn your scale on and place any plate, bowl or container on it.  It will tell you how much your container weighs.

But, the TARE feature allows you to not have to do the math or if you are like me, you don’t have to turn your scale off/on to get it to zero out.  Simply hit the “ON/OFF/TARE” button one time and it zeros the scale out.

See the TARE sign in the lower bottom corner?  It’s that simple.

Since this is my first product demo, I though I’d show you all one more thing I LOVE about having a food scale.  You often get MORE food by weighing it versus measuring it or counting out so many POPCHIPS, PITA CHIPS, crackers, cereal, cheese, etc.  I don’t know about you, but, I am ALL about maximizing my eating volume :D

Example 1 ~ Kashi Go Lean.  A serving is 1 cup or 39 grams.  First, you have to convince yourself to be honest and to not make your 1 cup HEAPING which depending on my hunger levels can easily happen.

IMG_9577

Side by side measuring ~ I already dig the scale because it looks like more.

IMG_9576

On the left is the SCALE measurement and on the right is the MEASURING CUP!

IMG_9579

EXAMPLE 2: CHEESE!!! I ALWAYS grate my own cheese especially when using low-fat because it melts better than the pre-shredded packaged kind.

IMG_9581

In the example, I used 1 cup of finely shredded cheese or 4 ounces (1/2 a pre-shredded bag)

IMG_9580

Look at HOW much more you get even with packing that 1 measuring cup full….trust me, I push as much as I can into my measure cups :D LOL  Another way to get MORE cheese is to ALWAYS use finely shredded over grated since it gives you more pieces for your volume.

As you can tell, I LOVE this scale.  It is a fun and easy to use kitchen gadget that is perfect to help keep you on track in making sure you are HONEST with your portions, yet, it’s perfect for measuring ingredients in recipes too.

I don’t weigh my food much anymore since I’m not tracking for any goals, but I do love using a food scale when I’m trying to be more careful with the eats and working towards a goal. And you’re right. You do get so much more with weight! LOL

I love my higher end salter but it can’t handle the weight of my plates most of the time. Especially when I’m weighing in grams. I think I figured it out today by putting it on as ounces or pounds and then tare and then grams. But if it keeps giving me fits I will have to try yours! Is the one in your shop white or black?

Thanks!!!

HI Alison,

That is a crazy process you have to go through to get your measurement :)

The one in my shop is only in grey, but, I think that is better than the black one. The one I have is black/silver and I am constantly wiping finger prints off due to my OCD ways :)

I guess it makes more sense to use finely grated cheese because you do get more pieces per volume (or whatever lol). I never thought of it that way… also it melts extremely well when it’s so thin. I think I may have to get into this scale thing…
